I started my Jiu Jitsu journey at a Rickson Gracie seminar in the spring of 1994. It was love at first fight. I spent the next few years training at any opportunity. I would travel to Boston once a month for the only available class at the time. Not too long after this I found Don Banville in Fall River Massachusetts and trained with him at his school JBA. Don ran an amazing school with a great atmosphere and dare I say ahead of his time. I was with him and his program until I got my blue belt and moved to Texas in the fall of 2001.
Shortly after arriving I started my training with William Vandry, Austin’s First Black belt, who I received my Black Belt from in the fall of 2010. It was here that I started teaching classes as a purple belt and realized how much more I actually loved jiu jitsu. I love learning and found that I love teaching just as much. After leaving Vandry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2012, I trained and taught a class at Rabadi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Round Rock until 2014. I learned a ton here and they have a brilliant program (highly recommended if you’re in the area.)
It was after this I started training with Derrick Garza and haven’t looked back once. Derrick runs a spectacular program and creates an atmosphere that is second to none. I’m lucky enough to be a part of the team here at the Dark Clan Fight Lab, and teach beginner Jiu Jitsu classes (Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 pm.)
